The Nintendo Wii U Game pad is a cool device. A lot of what it has to offer seems to be unexplored. It is great to have software that allows the system to highlight its ability. Sometimes, when there are individuals who believe the home console should let go of the Game pad, I ask why. I believe there are at least five different reasons to keep the Wii U Game pad. This may not change many minds, but I think, they are very interesting thoughts.
1) The Wii U Game pad Can Add To The Ultimate Digital Novelizations On Wii U
I look to the Harry Potter franchise, as an example, and an opportunity to use the Nintendo Wii U in a way. As a further extension of the website Pottermore, and the Harry Potter novels, why not use the combination of the Wii U Game pad, Wii U Motes and Wii U controllers, along with high definition graphics, communication and game play, to immerse a reader, and player, into a world based on Harry Potter’s Universe? This is just an example, but it can apply to any novel. If Nintendo drives communications among its users, the ability to interact with some stories and great graphics, the Wii U Game pad can work.
2) Make Use of the Wii U Game pad As a Visual Device, or Character, Along with the Wii U Controller
I never got to play the game Ju On: The Grudge Haunted House Simulator, on the Wii. I did play a game the Calling. It makes use of the Wii mote. It vibrates, shakes and reacts to how you move inside a haunted house. In order to create tension, and with nice graphics for a Wii title, ghost pop up and appear, shocks, and scares, show up abound and sounds erupt with the use of the Wii mote.
Take a haunted house game, create graphics for the television, separate animations, and actions, for the Wii U Game pad, this tool can play a part as a scary device. In a wrestling game, possibly Pro Wrestling X, the Game pad can dictate wrestling game play based on user’s separate interactions on the Game pad. In a tag team match, players might use two players; one player goes out of the ring. A separate action outside the ring, in a mini-game, can dictate how quickly players get back to the ring while another player fights two other players in the ring.
3) The Wii U Game pad Can Help to Apply the Augmented Reality Concept to Wii U
Using the Nintendo Figurine Platform to customize the Nintendo Experience, Nintendo can use the same figures for Augmented Reality, on Wii U. Nintendo can create secret games players can unlock with each figurine. For example, capture the Luigi figure, with the Wii U’s camera, and expose a Luigi versus Donkey Kong game, on the Wii U Game pad.
4) The Game pad, with Wii U’s, Ability to Turn Off, and On, Can Add Life to Games
You finish a game. You are beaten. You decide to fight another day. The console, with Game pad, introduces players to, content, automatically, outside of the game. You turn off your console. The Wii U can come back on, without you, and operate from just the Game pad. This process can direct players, who lose a lot or, who win, directly to the Mii Verse, for game tips or to other success stories. Players can get back into the game, to finish the game, find hidden rewards, and enter some other hidden game to improve your skills on a particular game.
5) Add content to the Movies, Youtube Experiences, and Other Media Content through Wii U
This is a tough idea. It requires companies to create solid content, and use creativity, to coincide with Youtube videos, Netflix. Hulu Plus and other media content on the Nintendo Wii U to extend the initial experience. Netflix plans to bring a series of Marvel shows to their service. While you watch the show on Wii U, why not add a solid game experience, on the Game pad, as a bonus. This add-on can extend a series, or movie, into playable form.
I truly believe beyond the Nintendo Wii U’s specifications, the Game pad exists to immerse the game player, or media user, like no home console has, or will. The question will be what game developers, and media developers, will step up and experiment on the Nintendo Wii U Game pad, to deliver experiences that will expand the whole Wii U user experience.
